A long way to Orford

One of many small towns that we biked through.
After last nights blog post we shuffled through 60 or so channels of nothing to watch. We wanted to go to sleep early but out room was over the bar and the locals like to talk loudly while drinking. The bar closed at 11:00 and we were hoping to go to sleep as they left. Around 11:15 it seemed that things were dying down when to our surprise, the room shook as a bar fight broke out below us. It was followed by lots of yelling outside our window. They all soon ran out of steam and we were able to go to sleep as the local church bell chimed 12.
The Shepherd and Dog classic pub. good food.
We rose around 8:00 headed out for coffee, sausage rolls and such. I bought a new English cap to bike inane started pumping my pannier laden rental bike towards Orford. Went a few miles and caught a small ferry across and rolled until we got to the Shepard and Dog pub. We had pints and I had a couple of awesome local sausages in a baguette. We rolled along snapping pictures of houses farms and such. We then took a detour to see the pub that Jodi's grandparents used to run. We biked another hour or and finally made it to Orford. We missed check in time so we had to wait a while til we could find someone to let us in. This place must be the oldest place that I've ever stayed in. The floor in the room is so old that it sags about 10 inches in the center.
One of many decaying boats seen

After check in at the Kings Head, we checked out Orford castle, the waterfront and the ancient church right behind the pub that we are staying in.

We stopped back by the room then headed out for an amazing meal at the jolly sailor. I had a steak with some awesome onion gravy , fries(chips)and a big roasted mushroom with a grilled tomato on top. I also tried a pint of Bass mild which was quite good.

Interesting headstone art of days gone by

It was getting chilly so we went back to the Kings Head for a final 1/2 pint.we were quite tired from 3hours or so of biking so we watched Blazing Saddles on tv and went bed.
Cute signs for each small town along the way
Ruins of an old church connected to the
1890's replacement church
No shortage of things to do
Tacky boat names even on Orford
Very specific crossing signs we everywhere

Hat to take a pic of this classic
