Today was the sunniest day of our travels. We set out on our bicycles with blue skies. We pedaled along narrow lanes through little villages to reach Felixstowe. Felixstowe is sleepy seaside town. I remember it from my childhood: frolicking on the rocky beach, dipping my feet in the cold water, eating fish & chips, and begging to play one more game in the amusement park. Today, it is a busy sea port and most of England's imports go through Felixstowe. But the little seaside town has seen better days. Many of the buildings are for sale or need repair. It may be the time of year, but it is not the popular destination I remember.
We stayed in The Brook Hotel, an older, nice, reasonably priced hotel. We wandered the streets looking in shops. We popped in a pub or two (surprisingly, there are not many here) for pints. We ate ice cream and enjoyed the day. After a rest, we picked up a couple of cans of Red Stripe, popped in the fish & chip shop for a take away, and picnicked on the beach.
Tomorrow we head to Orford.
